Tamarixes perform best if cut back heavily each season, so they can
develop new vigorous flowering wood. Spring flowering ones should be
pruned as soon as the flowers finish, but summer flowering species,
which flower on new growth, should be pruned back over winter.

If yours is the summer-flowering kind you can prune it sometime before
spring, but if it is the sort which flowers in spring you had better
leave it now until after its next flowering, or you will lose a year's
blooms.
