Ah well, I must admit I didn't pay attention to this very much, but
I've just checked mine and I see nothing resembling spines on my C.
gilliesii. Tim mentioned earlier, about me growing C. pulcherrima
down here as well. It is early days yet as to whether it will
survive, although things look very hopeful. I'd rather see it through
another winter and see rather more flowers produced before deciding
whether it really is worth growing here. No point in having something
that just gets by without really thriving. There were a few flowers -
and very nice they were too, but getting to the stage where it makes a
bright splash of colour is an entirely different ball-game. Here's
hoping.
