Marina & Anthony,
We bought the Baker yard management system early this year
from A.M. Leonard catalogue ($411)
-"An electric chipper/shredder w/a specially designed, industrial rated electric motor
(110V, 14 amp, 3450 RMP) ...Large 18"x14" hopper, two triangle hammers and
2 J-hammpers for shredding branches up to 3/8", 2 heavy-duty knives chip
limbs up to 2" dia. (op leaf vac.kit for an extra $92 " -which
we DIDN't purchase, and haven't needed...)
1. I got tired of hand cutting my prunings (when you get older these things start
taking a toll!)
2. I appreciate it being electric, instead of gas run
3. I use safety glasses but not ear, it is a little noisy, but not that bad (no complaints
from neighbors yet, anyway, can't be any worse than my having to listen to
their leaf blowers, as well as there are a lot of chain saws going in our neighborhood year round...)
4.I save up my prunings, then do a session for about 2 hours, about 2x a month -it works best
w/mostly dried and a little wet stuff
5. I use the end product only in my compost -and worm bin,
it composts in about 1/4 of the time, (and the leaves don't form a soggy mass!)
-I get enough mulch in my garden from Douglas Fir needles which land on it from the trees...
6. we are on about 1/2 acre, but a lot of trees (redwood, doug fir, fruit) and gardens (no lawn)
so it is the right size for our space
..it is motor freight delivery, so you may have to pick it up yourself
-after years of cutting by hand and wishing for one, but not finding one we could afford,
I am very happy w/it (it was an investment for us, but worth every penny as far
as I am concerned, because I refuse to throw away our yard/garden prunings)
(now it is a decision tho whether to chip a twig or save it for kindling!)
If you are interested, and don't get their
catalogue their web site is www.amleo.com
hope this helps, Maura
