When I grew them in pots, I always used a good quality loam based
compost with about 15% by volume added grit as well as providing
plenty of drainage material (broken crocks etc) in the base of the
pot.  The results were always excellent and the plants often stood for
several years before being repotted.  Any soil-less compost will only
give moderate results since they break down too quickly and lose their
nutrients in no time at all.
