Re: Re(2): Sparrows

My humingbirds (I'm very proprietary about them) hightailed it off
to Mexico, bag and baggage, a couple of weeks ago the first time the
temperature dipped below 40F (4/5C). I've got the feeders soaking in
Clorox right now to get ready to be packed away until next year. It's
hard to tell, but the two pairs that show up every
spring may have their own proprietary interest in my place:
I've read studies that claim the same hummingbird will return to the same
yard and the same feeder on the very same day each spring, sort of like
the San Juan Capistrano swallows, I guess. With their ability to fly
backwards, forwards, sideways, upside down and hover, they're a real joy
for a strictly amateur naturalist like me to get to observe for four or
five months every year. I never worry about growing specific
"hummingbird" plants because I noticed they'll stick their beaks into any
flower no matter what color, and anyway, they spend most of their time
catching bugs and getting their "nectar fix" from the feeders.
