Title: Re: gophers Hi all,
Believe it or not, during the drought I actually had gophers who would emerge from their holes and jump over and down into the chicken wire lined bed. But it was none-the-less the safest place in the garden.

Fighting the wretches for over 40 years. The ONLY thing that works for me is this: I dug up all my beds, hauled away all the old soil, dug down 4 feet, lined the straight walls and floor with heavy gauge aviary wire, then brought in all new soil mix, and replanted. I no longer worry about them. Haven't lost a plant in the past ten years. For isolated plantings, dig a big hole, line it, then put in good soil. That should last until you are 100. For all new gardeners, esp. when building a new house, do all this then - it is easy - and you move into eden.
