I searched my e-mail record (back a few years) and did not find your first
inquiry. I work very hard to respond the variety of inquiries I receive
each week.
Yes, there is a digest mode for this listproc. If you review the
information I placed on the web page for the group
(http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/discuss.html), it shows the command,
which is:
set medit-plants mail digest
The above command must be sent to listproc@ucdavis.edu This is a standard
listproc command, used in many similar lists. ALL members should bookmark
this page on their browsers as I routinely get inquires of this same type.
I'm not really trying to be snippy, but few people realize what a burden it
is to be responsible for a list such as this. Often subscribers to the
list wonder where I am - they haven't seen me participate recently. Well,
I am almost always 'here', but dealing with a myriad of error messages,
inquiries, problems, etc. These often take up all of the time I have
available to devote to this list. Consequently, I seldom have an
opportunity to format a response to some of the interesting threads going
through the forum.
Just today, I see a former member trying to get onto the group again, but
yet again without understanding the simple commands required to do this
without assistance. I have had to remove this person from the list twice
in the past after they let their e-mail to lapse. When I had an
opportunity to talk to this person (they are local to me), they explained
that they though it was easier to let 'someone else' take care of it. You
might imagine the feelings I have when faced with having to explain to this
person again what to do, knowing they will likely do the same again in future.
Well, my 'snit' is over. Someday, I'll have to consider if the upkeep of
this group is something I can continue. Unfortunately, the popularity of
this forum has only made it more of a burden in recent years. I do so much
enjoy the information that coming from this pleasant and friendly
group. Perhaps someday I'll have more time to devote to it and be able to
participate in the actual discussion with more regularity.
respectfully,
your list-servant,
Sean O.
