Rosa glutinosa has a number of forms. One is R. rubiginosa
var. cretica. The taxonomy of species roses is unbelievably complicated. The
cretica is a dwarf form and can be found from Italy to Persia as well as on the
mountains of Greece and the offshore islands. Pink flowers (five petals).
Bristly down the canes. I hope some of our Greek members will give
personal views on this!! So little has been written on many of the
species, but the R. californica complex is now under review. And if anyone is
interested in that complex, get in touch. Bill Grant, central coast California.
