Cretan Rose (Rosa rubiginosa cretica)

Title: Cretan Rose (Rosa rubiginosa cretica)

Just a little snippet on this Cretan Rose: The actual "sweet briar," Rosa rubiginosa, does not grow in Crete, though R. glutinosa has been considered a synonym of R. pulverulenta in recent literature on the flora of Crete. I know of one record of R. glutinosa/pulverulenta from a limestone rocky place at 1700 m altitude in the White Mountains in the west of the island, made by the Austrian botanist Karl-Heinz Rechinger in 1942. I've not seen this species myself in Crete. The location in the White Mountains is pretty remote.
