Hi Judy -
I have never found Brugmansias to do well for extended periods in a pot,
regardless of the size of the pot. They really do prefer to have a free
root-run, and the leaf-drop you mention is certainly due to the limited
nourishment available in a pot. You might try giving it a very dilute
fertilizer with each watering but I suspect it will still give you this
problem. In your area Brugmansias will survive better in the ground as
well (roots in even a large pot get colder in winter than those in the ground).
There have been some postings about Brugmansias on this forum in the past.
