RE: rose propagation and Buff Beauty

Barbara-

I wouldn't put it in the ground now. It may not grow much more and it will
be losing its leaves shortly. Then you'll have a naked 5 inch twig sticking
out of the ground. You might want to wait to plant it when it starts to
come out of dormancy, depending on the weather. Don't know what size your
pot is, but keeping it in a one or two gallon pot would be fine til then.
Keep it out of the wind, don't let it dry out.

I've finally been able to root a rose--my first success. I can see a tip of
root out of the bottom of the plastic pot. The next question is can I put
it in the ground any time now? The cutting is only about 5" tall with a two
sets of three leaves each on top and one shoot coming from a bud below with
several areas leafing out. It's Indian summer hot here in Berkeley at the
moment.

Also--my Buff Beauty bloomed only once this year, the fourth season I've
had it. It's bloomed more often than that before and I've added amendments
similarly to the way I've done in the past; no chemical fertilizers.
