There is a brand of "Gopher Cages" available through
nurseries and hardware stores (with garden centers).
They are available in 1-gallon, 5-gallon, and
15-gallon size.
The label on the cage claims that "chicken wire" has
holes that are too big and "aviary wire" is not strong
enough to keep out gophers; their wire is "just right"
with holes intermediate in size between the two and a
wire that is strong enough to deter gophers.
