"The Italian Branch [of the Mediterranean Garden Society] will meet in
Lucca (Northern Tuscany) on 7th and 8th September to visit Murabilia, a
garden fair which began last year and was a great success. The fair is
held between two bastions of the ancient walls of the city and will
include stands with major nurseries exhibiting, enthusiasts showing their
plants and vegetables, a show of fruit and fruit trees, garden supplies
and furniture. A visit to the Botanic Garden is included. We will also go
to see the beautiful gardens of Villa Massei, home of MGS members Paul
Gervais and Gil Cohen. There are many famous villas and gardens near Lucca
which can also be visited.
In October the group plans to visit the National Park at Portofino
(Liguria) for a botanical trail, a visit to La Cervara, a monastery with
restored gardens, and possibly a boat trip to San Fruttuoso, a beautiful
property belonging to the Italian National Trust.
Anyone interested should contact: Carol Smith (john@ntc.it), the Italian
Branch chair.
