Fasciation - the botanical definition certainly sounds more appropriate.
A malformation in plants, in which a stem or branch becomes flattened and
widened laterally in the shape of a ribbon. -- from fascia Latin for band,
fillet
I wonder what the other relevant terms are for the other phenomena I alluded to.
