fire retardant plants

I live in British Columbia which is suffering through devastating wildfires.  Is there a site recommended for fire retardant plants, and one on pruning to minimize the danger of fire moving to the house?  I have found a couple through google, but they are Australian, and use more Australian natives which are iffy here. I would welcome discussion on whether this is in any way effective--
