For several years, David Neuman has been involved with the planning and execution of major building and landscape projects on the Stanford University campus. This multi-year project has been guided by landscape design plans from Fredrick Law Olmstead commissioned for the new campus by Jane Lathrop Stanford in the late 1800s. During his lecture, David will draw on his experiences to discuss the importance of long term planning, multiphase completion of a large project and design issues when creating landscapes driven by diverse needs for a busy public space such as a university campus. Design and installation of residential landscapes pose similar challenges. David will discuss the importance and benefits of trees to the success of all landscape projects and their contribution to surrounding areas whether that is a neighborhood or an entire region.
