Hi all,
In the past months, my interest for Ulmus
parvifolia has been growing due to its many interesting features: showy bark,
quite resistant to Dutch Elm Disease, nice shape, sometimes good fall colour
and, what is most interesting for us gardening in a med climate, one of the elms
that does best in dry soil (after Ulmus pumila, that is).
I first saw this tree at The Holden Arboretum near
Cleveland, OH, several years ago. It seems it is becomming fairly popular
in the USA as a street tree, with some good cultivars already developped, like
'Allee' (also known as Emer II or Emerald Vase). But, to my surprise, it
seems here in Europe it is mostly only known as a bonsai plant, with
cultivars like 'Yatsubusa'.
Does any of you know of any nurseries in Europe
that grow this tree as a landscape plant and not as a bonsai? I've spent hours
searching on the internet with no luck.
Thank you.
Fran.
