Re: Hesperaloe parviflora

When I looked it up in Botanica, it sade that it is closer related to yucca, and the likness to aloe is only skin deap so to say.

Dear Joan,

I guess the common name is red yucca - even though it isn't a yucca as you say - but an aloe - point well taken.  thank you.

Side point. If the plant is an aloe, it is not a yucca.

Thanks to all for your advice - I had not been familiar with this yucca before.  Sounds like I may have gotten a great plant - we have plenty of heat here and very gritty decomposed granite soil (tends to be a little soggy in winter ) - so I am looking forward to putting in a new little section raised up a bit to help with winter drainage - will have to run back and get a few more of these for a grouping of them.  I have some very large boulders placed on top of the ground - I may add some soil around them and then plant the Hesperaloe surrounding them and then perhaps some grey chip rock for mulch.  thanks again.
