In the British Army during the '40s, that would have been on the Charge Sheet as "Self-inflicted wounds" and would have ended up with the same result!!! (Not that we even had the chance to encounter the beastly stuff, as it appears to live /only/ in North America.)

My brother remembers a fellow during the war at Fort Ord who thought if he took off all his clothes and rolled in poison oak he could get a discharge. After the hospital, he was put in the brig. bill grant
