the closely related Ziziphus spina-christi which grows in the Middle East is thought to be the thorn in Christ's crown of thorns. I think the fruits of this species are also edible.

I saw this small tree in the Garden centre today and they didn't know the latin name. It wasn't labelled and he called it in Spanish 'Alzafeifo?' I cannot find this word in any books or on the net.   The fruits are apparently edible. Its very pretty and I would like to know more about it.  Any ideas?
