Again, I could not resist! We were doing some cleanup in the garden this past
weekend, my wife, son, daughter and her boyfriend. They all enjoy the garden
but find my 'weird' plants a bit odd. After teasing me about the flowering
Drimia bulbs, I thought I'd get back at them by forcing them to pose with the
bulbs in hand:

Regarding the bulb (& others) 'unplanting' themselves, I've heard of this and
seen many half unburied bulbs in photos, especially in sandy, desert soil on
slopes. I think, as has been mentioned, that because these plants can
tolerate this, and can even survive being out of the ground for some time, it
is not unusual to see this happen. I even had one bulb which was left behind
the others during planting that eventually rooted lightly into the soil and
grew an entire year before it was discovered (it failed to flower with the
others but is now doing very nicely after being replanted).
Because a plant can take a certain treatment does not necessarily that evolved
the ability to survive the abuse for a specific reason - it just can.
