Las Pilitas nursery states that you should expect 20 - 25 years out of
a Ceanothus, I've got a couple of the "Ray Hartman" variety which are
growing in pure sand and have been in the ground for about 5 years
showing no sign of decline (they are almost small trees now). These
also get no summer water.
