Re: Giant Whitefly

Please Medit. Planters:

The Santa Ana area of Orange County, CA is experiencing heavy
infestations of Giant Whitefly. These insects create heavy cottony webs
that drape from infested plants like the "mummy's rags", while they feed
underneath. I can't find anything on the web about them (I'm not very
good at it) and so I turn to you.

What can anybody tell me about them and what is the current method of
control? I've recommended that they spray repeatedly with a soapy water
solution, but this doesn't seem to faze the insects. Please, does anyone
have a low environmental impact suggestion? I and several "Fanatic
Gardeners" would be so grateful.
