Well unfortunately they're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.
They could spray the fire with water, but then the toxins would get into
the ground and pollute the ground water. So, they have to let it burn
itself out and have toxic smoke in the air.I was watching the news
tonight and the smoke is much less. Yesterday and the day before the smoke
was thick and black.
Here to the south, the fires in the Los Padres National Forest is still
burning. The otherday it had reached the Carmel River watershed, and they
said if the fire had burned through the watershed, the soils wouldn't have
anything to hold them and they would wash into the reservoir. I hear the
fires are changing direction but they're only 20% contained. I think the
total acreage burned is around 30,000 or so.
We have even gotten some ashes from the fire coming down here in Marina.
Not thick mind you but you can see it on your cars. I even could smell the
smoke in the air the otherday.
