In NZ, these are perhaps most commonly known as "Asian Pear" but the
Nashi name is also used.

They are not to our taste, While we agree that they are pleasantly
juicy, crisp and crunchy, they are also almost tasteless.

With one exception! When we were on a study trip in the NW Nelson
district of South Island some years ago, we encountered a "hobby farm"
where the owners encouraged us to feed nashis straight off the trees in
their orchard to tame deer in the adjacent paddock. Just one tree had
fruits that were noticeably more orange in colour than all the rest, and
on experiment, we found these particular fruits had the most delightful,
delicate flavour. But we have never seen (or tasted!) fruits like those
at any other time.
