Both books might be right- most plants have variations in size in their
normal populations.

So sizes are best given over a typical range for seed grown plants that have
not been selectied out for unifirm traits.

18 inches to five feet is a pretty wide range though- there might be few
distinc populations  with some shorter growing plants or some one has
selected out a clone that is smaller than the normal species.
