I like Duncan's suggestion of throne thistles. But, personally, I think the best deterrent would be cleverly disguised animal traps. Yes, yes, I know how much trouble I'd be in but I can dream, can't I ?!?! I am extremely lucky -- I live very, very near a small park with lots of stuff for the kids to play on. Evenings and weekends are filled with the ball players "chatter" and, when I am working outside, I hear blood-curdling screams and wonder if I'll read in the paper that someone was murdered! When diddling, I frequently find cables buried near the surface. Seems like the installers should know enough to go around gardens of any type! Sometimes I dream of "accidentally" cutting one to see what it is and where it goes but I am such a coward! When the first cable TV lines were run on the telephone poles at the back of my lot, the installer trampled my garden! Best Wishes to you all -- Barbara USDA Zone 5, Rock Island, Illinois USA |
