Bob,
Astrantia major has the strange ability to remain underground for a year or
two, no top growth in dry years and then return when a rainy season appears.
Mark yours with a stake and watch for it. It might return. mine stayed put
for two seasons and returned the third much to my surprise. Plant in pure
compost and put roots in deep. Alas, it does like a lot of water.
