Marge, your variegated grass idea should look great near some of your 
hellebores.  Last fall I planted all-pink Pulmonaria near Graham's dark pink 
H. Orientalis.  They look quite good together.  This spring I am putting some 
of the rather tall Primula Veris in sunset colors around a new 
green-flowering hellebore.  So far I love the combination.
