Caution is the best course of action with regard to "water crystals." The
majority of these products are not designed for agriculture, but are sold as
such. There are polymer products specifically manufactured for agriculture
and do not have any of these adverse effects, nor do they harm the ecosystem
in any way, in fact they are beneficial.
Some of these polymers are used in nursery production, and not only do they
reduce water requirements, but reduce fertilizer & chemical applications, as
well as virtually eliminating nutrient run-off.
If you ask around I'm sure you'll be able to determine which of these
products are the ag polymers and which are impersonators.
