It sounds like a section reverted back to the all green leaf, what happens is
that the green leaves grow much faster than the white variegated leaves and
over take them in the spring choking out the variegated part of the plant.
It sounds like it might be time to divide the plant up into a few different
plants and see if one of those plants comes back variegated.
Your condition is not uncommon but I have not had it happen to me yet in the
Brunnaria.
