If you have a free draining location you can dig a hole and fill with perlite
(coarse grade) or plastic "peanuts." Put your roots/bulbs in the middle so
they are surrounded by the perlite and cover the hole with a board and put a
few inches of dirt over it. This should keep them "warm" and dry over the
winter.

But being in zone 7 is almost tropical to me.

The deer are out and about, I have a deer "fence"made out of European buck
thorn that I am cutting out of the woods (very invasive species) . The fence
is 140 yards long, three to five feet tall and three to eight feet wide.

The other day 6 dear were on one side of the fence and I was on the other
side. We were about 30 yards apart. They have little fear of me, but that
will change if they get in and eat any thing. (I will chase them threw the
woods like a banshee) The electric fence is used to keep them from sneaking
in down along the road and down the side of the house. They have no problems
walking down and up the concrete steps.
