You'll find all the Cimicifuga -> Actaea references from James
Compton - who's very friendly and helpful - in the back of the
2002/2003 PlantFinder, page755. My 2003/2004 edition has not yet
arrived but I presume they'll be in there too. (Chris: how did you
get yours so soon?)
If you go to The PlantFinder online
(http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder.asp) and search on
Cimicifuga japonica it comes up as Actaea japonica; search on
Cimicifuga simplex White Pearl (leaving out the quotation marks
around the cv name which we've all been urged by the RHS to use for
years!) and it comes up as Actaea matsumurae 'White Pearl'.
