Sanguinaria canadensis major flore pleno listed by Dillenius in 1732 has
14-16 petals. S. c. var multiplex was discovered in 1916 in Dayton Ohio by
Guido von Webern. With the var. multiplex . the petals and carps are
transformed into petals. S. C. (var.) plena by Weston is the same as the
plant listed by Dillenius. The multiplex for was distributed by Henry
Teuscher of the Montreal Botanic Garden. There is apparently only one form
of multiplex. All fully double forms are known as S. c. multiplex. All
other semi-double forms are designated as flore plena. Many nurseries sell
the fully double form under the incorrect name. Information is from The
Connecticut Plantsman vol 3 No. 5
