Gene, I've had 'Gold Heart' for 2 years now - very striking plant. I
have it with Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea' and behind that are
some Eupatorium 'Chocolate'...the purple and bronze foliage of the
latter 2 make the gold foliage stand out while it compliments the
euphorb flowers nicely. By the time the E. 'Chocolate' blooms, the
Dicentra has retreated for the summer. I am not sure that euphorb is
hardy for you, but I'm quite taken with purple and gold foliage
combos. Sounds garish, but works in reality.
Think it would also be quite neat rising out of a carpet of
Ophiopogon 'Nigrescens' and, perhaps with a few Tradescantia 'Blue
and Gold', whose foliage is about the same color as the Dicentra but
a different shape. I have never been a Tradescantia fan, but could
not resist 'Blue and Gold', so got it last year and was quite pleased
with its performance. Now that I've said this, think I just might
move a few guys around and try out that combo myself:-)
