Most experienced gardeners here are reluctant to purchase
tradescantia due to it's weediness. Does the gold foliage cultivar hold its
color all year?
Yes, it does. But like most Tradescantia plants - it stops growing after
they are done blooming - if they are cut off just above the ground, you can
have a new flush of fresh foliage.
Its a very nice plant, use in light shade to full sun. The meedium dark blue
flowers contrast nicly with the yellow-gold foliage.
I like Spiderwworts -so am biased, weedy would never be a word I would use
for them. They do spread and can often self seed, the only weedy one I have
ever grown is Tradescantia 'Red Cloud' a useless weed that did not flower much
and spread out underground to cover a few feet of area. Why any one named it
"Red Cloud" is beyond me-they must have been more color blind than I am.
I have loved all the different Spiders I have grown except the above one and
'Hawaiian Punch' -- which tended to flop over on me and was always attached by
some type of fungus.
