Chris, a five foot wide space of 'OrangekÃnigin' - oh my!!!! I only just put that one in last year and I am orange w envy of your patch! My little one is blooming now though; I just love the color. I get all my Epis from the Probsts' Garden Vision and they always ship in June indicating that after flowering is one of the best time to divide, so you're on the right track there. I've only done it a couple of times, more or less as you described, resetting pieces at the same depth as before. Here's a great article on them created by a Horticulture interview of Darrell Probst. At the bottom of the article is a step-by-step how-to of epimedium division. Kitty -----Original Message----- From: owner-perennials@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Christopher P. Lindsey Sent: Saturday, April 25, 2015 11:40 PM To: perennials@hort.net Subject: Dividing Epimedium I noticed this year that some of my Epimedium clumps have gotten pretty sizable. The Epimedium x warleyense 'OrangekÃnigin' clump is particularly large, filling a five foot wide space and starting to encroach on the double-flowering Solomon's seal. I've never divided out an Epimedium clump before. What's the best way? Anything special, or can I just trim the edges with a spade and transplant? Thanks!
