No book comes to my mind faster than the Clausen and Ekstrom book which
you have already mentioned but I also make good use of The Harrowsmith
Perennial Garden by Patrick Lima, Camden House, 1987. Without doubt
there are other fine books but these are seldom on the shelf at my
place. And if we are allowed to say the word Herbs, The Harrowsmith
Illustrated Book of Herbs, aslo by Patrick Lima, gets high marks with
me. Then there are the volumes on shade gardening, essential since I
have so much of that commodity. I like The Complete Shade Gardener,
by George Schenk, Houghton Mifflin, 1984 and Gardening in the Shade,
a Better Homes and Gardens publication done by Meredith Books in 1996.
