Hydrangea quercifolia grows (and flowers) at the Montreal Botanic
Gardens. I grew some from seed (from a northern source) and am
confident it will do well here in Z4. I have 4 seed grown Cercis
canadensis (from the very old and hardy clone at the Minnesota
landscape arboretum) which have survived 3 years here (their first
winter as tiny seedlings being that brutal one of not so long ago with
lows to -40C and no snowcover. Take heart. Be brave. Grow woodies from
(northern) seed.
North Gower, Ontario Z4.
