I didn't stake mine last year, when I grew them from nursery seedlings.
This year, they reseeded themselves (everywhere) and are off to a much
better start, and taller. I may need to stake them if they get very tall
and the stems aren't strong enough to support them. Last year they grew to
about 3' tall.
