Ideas for a new '99 bed

Hi,

I have a new project I'm planning on starting this next winter. My
daughter has a 16' X 80' mobil home which will be moved out this winter
after the fields are harvested and dried out. Likely in November. I plan
on piling on old manure and leaves on the bare spot and mulching deeply
to make a bed for spring planting. It recieves morning shade all over
the plot with sun over 3/4 of it for the rest of the day. The other 1/4
will have sun in mid-day but mostly shaded by trees and a two story
house in the later afternoon.

I'm beginning to plan it now so I'll know what to do next spring. I
want to fence it with a rustic willow fence around the edges with three
gateways comming into it. One on the middle south and one each on the
west middle and east middle. I want to leave the north closed as it will
be near an irrigation ditch. I want a willow arbor over each of the
gateways. So far I know I want a large patch of asparagus on the north
end, and a number of clematis. If I place 3' paths in it, it will leave
the beds mostly 6.5' X 18' in size. Will they be wide enough or should I
add an extra 2 ft on each side for 8.5' X 18' beds. I plan on keeping a
lot of mulch down at all times and want to have some old roses and maybe
shrub roses in it as well as perennials and bulbs. I guess the overall
theme will be rustic.

I figure if I start now, I may some idea of what to order for the bones
of it next spring. I also have a number of existing perennials that I
can divide and place in it. I need well behaved plants. No asters, plume
poppies, and other vigerous growers. I'm planning a seperate semi-wild
area for them to romp and fight each other along with black eyed susans,
sweet rocket, heliopsis and many others.

Bye,

Ann B.
