Hi TJ
It is my understanding that California poppies are not conducive to
transplanting at all. In fact, I read once that the best way to plant
them is to scatter the seed over the snow in late February or early
March. I have never tried that, but I do have a friend in Connecticut
(zone 5) who grows poppies on the bank in front of her house, and I know
she started them from seed. Such a cheerful sight when coming up the
hill in the wonderful tiny town of Washington Depot, CT!!
Here in SE Michigan (zone 6 where I am, zone 5 in other areas further
away from Lake Erie), I haven't tried to grow them. Thanks for the
reminder that they are such cheerful flowers and that I should try them
in my front garden!!!
Lisa
