Short answer is yes! A Jackmani certainly will need pruning each
season, but it could also be J. Alba which requires less vigorous
attention, have we got names of these plants? Same also applies to the
"autumn" flowering plant. New Clematis plants of whatever type usually
benefit from fairly hard pruning when first planted and best to plant
them deeper than when growing at the nursery, this helps protect against
Clematis Wilt.
