These Tapien verbenas are very delicate looking plants. I prefer the more
robust Tamari verbenas--I planted three in very rich soil last year and they
covered a 4 x 10 bed by the end of the season and rooted in the path beside it
too. The red is a brilliant color and I understand they'll have a burgundy
colored one this year. I'm certainly going to buy it again. I had hoped to
winter some over, but no luck. In San Diego last summer I saw Tamari Red used
in window boxes to great effect. In addition, I have cut the stems and they
wilt immediately. However, an hour in water revives them and they last for
several days. A perfect plant if you want bright red. I think there's also a
purple and a pink.
