It sounds as if the root mass has become to "woody" and new eyes are not
forming in the fall. Its time to divid it up and rejuvenate the clump. On a
large plant it can be some work.

were the bleeding heart are just starting to bloom and I still do not know
what to do with a few giant clumps that I need to remove. They get 4 feet
tall and 7 feet across each and that space is reserved for Hosta. Now were is
that ax?
