Jean:
Ah -- liriope -- a great edging suggestion. We have a lot of the tough
boring green liriope, which I'm not fond of. I've been gradually removing
it from another area of my garden, and occasionally have pulled out clumps
and forgotten to replant them elsewhere for any entire season, but to my
shock the clumps were no worse for wear. The stuff is indestructible. But
you are right -- t=it would be perfect as edging.
But you remind me that there are some variegated viriope that are really
beautiful. They would do beautifully. And I have a weakness for variegated
plants. I'll get some!
Thanks!

Devon:
Liriope makes an excellent border and stays green way into the late
fall, even sometimes in winter here. It is tough, I know for sure hardy to
zone 5, grows neat, spreads but not rampantly. There are several kinds out
there, variegated, giant, and various others.
Try them.
