How very perceptive of you Bill. When I think about how short-sighted
the people in our governments are, it never ceases to amaze me. After
all, they brought us Kudzu.
Of course the beetles are not simply going to all conveniently die off
when they have finished with the purple loosestrife. They will adapt to
insure their survival. Consider the modern cockroach who have been here
for millions of years. I understand they can eat the most improbable
things in order to maintain their species.

I'm
very worried about what those beetles are going to do when they finish
all
the loosestrife. It is little consolation that they "ignore
eagricultural
crops and native plant species"--heck, they've still got more
loosestrife to
eat. And agricultural crops and native plant species do not begin to
describe everything in my garden.
