Finally, after harvesting and planting Baptisia seeds every week,
one batch has germinated! And it wasn't the batch with the nicked seed
coats; it was the batch that I cleaned.
The green pods had liquid in them but I didn't know if it was water
or some kind of germination inhibitor. So, before sowing, I soaked the
green seeds for 12 hours in a bottle of water with a drop of dishwashing
liquid, shaking it vigorously it every few hours. The seedlings appeared
in 19 days.
Problem is, I've kind of lost interest in the species since Nancy
told me that there is now a named cultivar, 'Blue Smoke'. Nancy, to what
does the name refer -- foliage, or flowers?
