I grow C. 'Wyoming' for the purple foliage (soft orange flowers) and
would not be without it - have carried the plants over for some 20
odd years. Also have 'Bengal Tiger', love the gaudy yellow and
green striped foliage, which makes a very nice combo with 'Wyoming'
in one very big pot I have that also has an elephant's ear in
it....my tropical pot:-) and C. 'Minerva', who is supposed to have a
white striped variegated leaf, but I find that stripe very faint and
irregular - hardly noticeable a foot away, but nice yellow flowers,
tho'.

Mine grow mostly in pots so I can get them in the sun, but I do set
some out in the garden where there is sun. They will actually grow
(albeit shorter) in light shade and even flower to some degree,
although they are not as happy nor as large as when they get sun and
a lot of water and rich soil.

Check out Tony Avent's Canna listing on Plant Delights...he has a
bunch with photos...some Don doesn't have and some he does.

Two I lust for are C. 'Phaison' (Don's 'Tropicanna' ) for pure
gaudiness and C. 'Constitution' because the color combination of
foliage and flower is simply lovely...am a sucker for purple foliage
anyway! Now that I've seen Don's ' Australia', I've added that to
the lust list....and I really have absolutely no more room for
them...they do tend to multiply.

Don....never have tried them from seed...any tips or techniques you'd
share?
