Perennial databases

I just received a seed catalog from a regional prairie nursery.  I have a list of plants native to my county, but when I try to find plant characteristics on a number of popular plant databases, I find very little information on certain varieties.
 
I know about the PLANTS database from USDA, the PFAF database, the Illinois Plant Information Network, the U of Wisconsin Vascular Plant atlas, the Horticopia plant information library and some others, but I'm kinda disappointed by the lack of depth on some of these sites.
 
Can someone point me to in-depth sites with both plant characteristics and photos?
